The Stony Kill Foundation, Inc. was chartered in 1977 and is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It has the responsibility of educating the public on various environmental and historical topics and maintains a working farm with livestock at the Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center, which is owned by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The Foundation is financed through membership dues, program fees, fundraising events, donations from the public, grants, and general contributions. All donations are tax deductible. Members of the Foundation are also encouraged to become volunteers.

stonykillbarnThe Mission of the Stony Kill Foundation, Inc. is to develop environmental, educational and historical interpretive and outdoor recreation programs and events; provide paid and volunteer staffing; secure financial assistance; obtain community and government support; and maintain compliance with Stony Kill Farm’s deeded agricultural commitments.

Examples of what the Foundation does:

  • Leases community garden plots
  • Financially supports environmental, educational, and historical programs, events and the livestock.
  • Offers scholarships for children to educational nature camps
  • Maintains a greenhouse
  • Sells bird seed bi-annually
  • Maintains the Verplanck Memorial Perennial Garden
  • Maintains over 8 miles of woodland hiking trails
  • Finances efforts to restore the 1700’s Verplanck Tenant Farm House
