Stony Kill Foundation oversees the daily operations and programming of Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center in Wappingers Falls, NY. Our mission is to educate the public and cultivate environmental stewardship through interpretation of the rich historical, environmental, and agricultural heritage of Stony Kill Farm. The beautiful 1000-acre Stony Kill Farm is comprised of pasture, hayfields, forest, community gardens, and historic buildings.

Environmental Education/Farm Interns (Paid)

We are hiring two Environmental Education/Farm Interns to join our energetic education team at the farm. Interns contribute to the planning, preparation, and delivery of our education and community programs (in-person and virtual) and assist with an array of livestock care and farm projects. These 5-month positions will begin in January 2021 and are well suited for those who enjoy the outdoors and have a talent for teaching and inspiring curiosity in others!

Responsibilities include:
• Assist Program Director with day to day tasks, program implementation, and event prep.
• Run the Farm Pod Program (an in-person remote learning/outdoor education program) held on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• Lead environmental activities for pre-school, elementary school, middle school, high school, youth groups, special needs groups, and the public. (in-person or virtual)
• Run activities for birthday parties, scout events, and tours at the farm. (in-person or virtual)
• Research, develop, and implement new education programs, workshops, and virtual programming.
• Assist with Summer Explorers Camp planning and preparation which will include research, creating daily activities and themes, and compiling materials.
• Assist with farm tasks including feeding animals, mucking barn, restocking feed, organizing barn areas, general cleanup, moving hay bales and equipment, etc.
• Database entry and general office support.
• Complete a project (to be arranged with the Program Director). Examples of past projects include: Planning and presenting a walk or program on a particular topic; designing and constructing an exhibit; developing new lesson plans and teaching activity materials; and creating a seasonal trail guide.

Desired Qualifications:
• Two years of college-level study or relevant experience.
• Background in teaching, environmental sciences, or related.
• Enthusiasm to learn, explore, and teach!
• Experience with performance/virtual field trips/social media a plus.

Additional Details:
• Pay rate: $12.50/hour for 20 hours/week
• Must have own transportation.
• Housing not provided.
